Bio: Gilbert Brown is an explosive wing player who was counted upon for a leadership role on a Pittsburgh team that went 28-6 and won the Big East Championship in 2011. A smart player who improved every year, Brown has contributed athleticism, rebounding, relentless defense, solid shooting and streaky scoring. Brown has the ability to take over a game with his athleticism and offensive aggressiveness. He provides spectacular highlights when he takes it strong to the basket and elevates to the rim.
Gilbert possesses prototypical size, length and athleticism for his position. An outstanding defensive player, the 6-6 Brown can defend multiple positions and uses his length and athleticism to frustrate opposing offensive players. His outstanding defensive prowess allows him to impact any game, and his ability to take over a game with his defense and athleticism was never more evident than in some of Pitt's biggest games of the year, including a late-season matchup against Louisville (20 PTS, 5 REB, 2 AST, 1 STL) and in the NCAA Tournament against Butler (24 PTS, 4-5 3pt, 4 REB, 3 AST).
In addition to his defensive and athletic abilities, Brown has developed into a reliable inside-outside scoring threat, finishing many of Pitt's fast-breaks with rim-rattling dunks and shooting 40% from behind-the-arc his junior and senior seasons. This versatility allowed Gilbert to thrive on a team where there weren't always enough shots to go around.
